Permeable, and what that means for planning
Laid on an open-graded base, a resin bound surface is porous: rainwater soaks through the stone into the base below rather than running off onto the road. For a new front drive over 5 square metres, a permeable surface built this way usually means no planning application and no separate soakaway. Laid over old tarmac or concrete, the water can only go as far as that solid layer, so we set falls to a drain or a planted edge instead. We tell you at the quote which applies to your drive.
The finish is only as good as the base
Resin bound can be laid over existing tarmac or concrete if it is sound, or over a fresh open-graded asphalt base we lay from scratch. We assess the existing surface, price accordingly, and flag anything that needs fixing first — a soft patch, a cracked base, poor falls — rather than hiding it under resin and charging you to redo it two years later.
Colour, stone and pattern options
Twenty-plus aggregate colours, multiple stone sizes, and optional borders or inset patterns. We bring physical samples to the quote visit so you can see the blends in daylight against your house, not through a supplier PDF. Resin bound pairs well with block paving borders or a patio in a contrasting material.
