If a driveway over 5 square metres drains onto the highway, it either needs to be permeable or it needs a soakaway. Permeable blocks have wider joints filled with grit so water drops through into the base rather than running off. Compaction, edge restraint and sand bedding
Block paving fails in two places: the sub-base and the edges. We excavate to full depth, lay and wacker-plate a Type 1 MOT base, install concrete edge courses on haunching, and bed blocks on sharp sand — not building sand. After laying, the surface is vibrated again and kiln-dried sand brushed into the joints. That is the sequence that stops rutting, edge collapse and joint washout.
