Block Paving is the most common surface we lay on driveways across Staines, Bedfont and Feltham because it does the job most customers actually want — a hard-wearing vehicle surface that looks finished, drains properly, and can be lifted and relaid if utilities ever need accessing underneath. Standard vs permeable blocks

If a driveway over 5 square metres drains onto the highway, it either needs to be permeable or it needs a soakaway. Permeable blocks have wider joints filled with grit so water drops through into the base rather than running off. They cost a little more per square metre but remove the planning-permission and SuDS headaches entirely. We tell you which category your driveway falls into and price both.

Compaction, edge restraint and sand bedding

Block paving fails in two places: the sub-base and the edges. We excavate to full depth, lay and wacker-plate a Type 1 MOT base, install concrete edge courses on haunching, and bed blocks on sharp sand — not building sand. After laying, the surface is vibrated again and kiln-dried sand brushed into the joints. That is the sequence that stops rutting, edge collapse and joint washout.
